New Wave
Punk had got the attention of record companies, gig promoters and radio stations, and created space for what was to follow: the new wave.
New wave is a very broad genre, though (initially at least) categorized simply as rock/pop, it was more edgy and arty than what had come before.
In the USA bands like Talking Heads, Blondie and Television took music in new exciting directions while in the UK bands including Public Image Limited, XTC and Squeeze had their very own ideas.
Arguably some of the best music every produced comes from bands rooted in the late 70's to early 80's New Wave movement.
